Instrumental Genius

Given this is my first post ever, I decided to dedicate it to something that I find extremely important in the realm of music: Instrumental music. There are a lot of great bands out there that produce a feeling of emotion and intensity that words sometimes cannot produce. Unfortunately, instrumental music doesn't make its way onto radio broadcasts but it's usually found in the background of a movie (EX: Friday Night Lights, where Explosions in the Sky is the entire basis for the movie) or advertisement.

I think it's time that non-lyrical music makes its way onto radio shows as well as more music festivals. Bonnaroo's lineup was recently released and I didn't notice any pure intrumental bands on the roster. Bummer.

These bands would be great additions to radio and festivals like Bonnaroo and Coachella:

STS9(Sound Tribe Sector 9):

This band is amazing. They have a good mix of music that is great for mellowing out as well as gettin' your dance on. If you don't agree with me, check out their song "Hidden Hand, Hidden Fist."

Explosions in the Sky:

One of my favorite bands without a doubt. The way this post-rock band from Texas produces music that is emotional in a way that you can perfectly imagine the setting for each song is amazing. They never use lyrics, but it feels like they do, as if each note was a different word. Amazing.

Other great instrumental bands you should check out:

-This Will Destroy You
-Sigur Ros
-Moqwai
-Red Sparowes
-Eluvium
-Caspian
-If These Trees Could Talk
-God is an Astronaut
-AFX
-Thievery Corporation (although, not all instrumental)

Below is a mix of songs (an imix I created with iTunes) that include the aforementioned bands. Definitely check them out.
